[appel à communication] International Conference of the Doctoral School in History – 18th edition – Revising revisionism: paradigms, interpretative models and heurtistic tools in historical research – 9-11novembre 2023 Cluj Napoca (DL : 31 août 2023)
The Doctoral School “History. Civilization. Culture”, of the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj (Romania) has the pleasure of inviting you to attend the eighteenth edition of its annual international conference which brings together students in history and related fields. Initiated as a forum for debates, which, over the years, has attracted increasing attention from Romanian and international students, this conference offers young researchers an opportunity to reflect on their own doctoral subject and to compare their results with those of other early career and established scholars.
The general theme suggested by the organizers this year, revisionism in current historiography, may be of interest to scholars working on any topic within the field of history. Participants are invited to reflect on revisionism in their own field of interest, considering that revisionist perspectives have impacted on research during the past decades, leading to interesting and stimulating conclusions, contesting well-entrenched paradigms, interpretative models and heuristic tools. It is enough to mention the impact of revisionism on Reformation studies, on the concept of feudalism, the discussions dedicated to the confessionalization paradigm or to various historical ‘turns’, linguistic, visual, spatial, ritual. In Romania, as elsewhere, historians have contested hegemonic paradigms and interpretative models particularly where national history is concerned. More attention has been paid to conceptual frameworks, while research tools have diversified as a consequence of the impact of inter-,multi- and trans-disciplinarity. That is why we believe that participants can reflect on their own research topics from the perspective of historical revisionism and come up with innovative conclusions.
In this sense, we would like to propose a few topics of discussion that participants may wish to engage with during the conference:
- The writing of history today
- Methods and models
- Provocative revisionist historians
- Historians and politics
- The impact of Revisionism on the writing of national history
- Interpretative paradigms
- Historiographical developments and conceptual frameworks
- Heuristic tools in historical research
- Interdisciplinarity in historical writing today
- This year the conference will take place on site in Cluj-Napoca except for some keynote
- lectures which may be held in hybrid format.
